About: The Binghamton University Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Club meets on a regular basis to practice this particular form of martial arts. The club teaches both sport and self-defense aspects of BJJ. Unlike traditional striking arts, BJJ is a submission grappling art that focuses on using the power of your opponent to your own advantage and emphasizes using technique over strength. (More info on BJJ) Who? This club is open to everyone, no previous experience is required. Just bring comfortable clothes such as shorts/sweats, t-shirt, and socks(only socks and wrestling shoes are allowed on the mat). What? Classes usually are conducted with about half the time spent on instruction, and the other half spent sparring. When? The first practice for Spring 2004 is Saturday, January 24th in the East Gym wrestling room at 2:00pm.
Where? East Gym Wrestling Room (go downstairs, make a right, and go to the room at the end of the hall). Why? It cost nothing to join, there are no membership fees or dues. You'll learn practical techniques which are useful in self-defense situations and BJJ is a fun way to get into shape. Note: You are required to complete the Club Sport Registration Forms. Please complete and hand in these forms on the first day you show up to practice.
